Did you always imagine yourself becoming an entrepreneur, or did this path evolve organically?
I like to call myself an accidental entrepreneur. My journey began as a makeup artist with an idea for a product I couldn’t find on the market. I didn’t set out to start a business—it just evolved from there. Over time, I learned and grew into the role. Now, I can confidently say I’m an entrepreneur, though it still makes me chuckle to think about it!
What was the first product you ever created, and what made it so special to you?
The first product I created was the chamomile balm, inspired by its soft scent and the calming properties of chamomile - the original Ouli's Ointment. It holds a special place in my heart because it represents the essence of the brand. My grandmother (Yiayia) used chamomile for everything, and her influence shaped the launch of this product. For years, it was our sole offering until the Ola Oil and other balms followed. It set the foundation for everything we’ve built since.
How has your experience being a celebrity make-up artist shaped your approach to product formulation?
It wasn’t just working with celebrities that shaped my approach—it was the variety of people and projects I encountered throughout my career. Each job taught me something about what works best on set. Experimenting with different textures and products gave me a solid understanding of what’s versatile and effective. Pair that with my formulating certification, and I have the tools to create something unique, always with a touch of creativity.
What’s been the most challenging aspect of launching and growing your brand, and how did you overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing sustainable growth while remaining self-funded. Packaging, reaching new customers and staying true to our values all present hurdles. I’ve learned to lean into creativity and focus on building strong connections with our community. They’ve been instrumental in spreading the word and helping us grow.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring beauty entrepreneurs, what would it be?
If your heart is calling you to create something, take the leap. You don’t need to have all the answers right away. Trust that the right doors will open as you move forward—it’s all part of the journey.
What’s the one thing you hope every person takes away when they use your products?
I want our products to feel like trusted companions—always there when you need them, whether it’s for daily use or in a pinch. They’re versatile essentials designed to make life easier without ever compromising on quality.
Redefining Simplicity and Elegance in Beauty
Was there a specific "aha" moment when you realized simplicity was the key to beauty?
It wasn’t a single "aha" moment but more of a realization that unfolded over time. Looking back, I noticed that clients and agencies valued my ability to keep things simple. Many artists over-apply to show their skills, but I found simplicity to be my strength. This philosophy naturally extended to my products, my teaching, and my belief that in a world of excess, simplicity truly resonates.
How do you personally define beauty?
Beauty, to me, is confidence. It’s that light someone carries when they truly believe in themselves and embrace who they are. It’s not about fitting into the world’s definition of beauty but owning your unique qualities. That kind of inner radiance is magnetic and far more powerful than any outward appearance.
Your brand is rooted in simplicity—why do you think simplicity resonates so deeply with people today?
In today’s overstimulated world, simplicity feels grounding. We’re constantly bombarded with messages telling us to do more, buy more, and be more. This can lead to overwhelm and even paralysis. By simplifying our routines and possessions, we can focus on what truly matters and find a sense of peace within ourselves. If my products can help people on that journey, even a little, then I’ve done my job.
How do you strike a balance between simplicity and creating products that still feel luxurious and effective?
It’s all in the details—textures, scents, and the overall experience. Our products have buttery textures and subtle, calming scents that feel luxurious without being overwhelming. It’s like the gentle aroma you notice when you lie down on a massage table at a spa—it grounds you and elevates the experience without complicating it.
What are your thoughts on the current "more is more" beauty trends, and how does your brand push against that?
The "more is more" mindset can be damaging, especially for younger generations who are still forming their self-image. These trends often promote unnecessary products that don’t benefit their skin or confidence in the long run. My goal is to educate people about their skin—how it works, what it needs, and how to embrace their natural beauty. By simplifying and demystifying beauty, I hope to shift the narrative.
Can you share your go-to simple beauty routine for a busy day?
Absolutely! I wash my face with water, use a gua sha tool, apply balm, curl my lashes, and brush up my brows. That’s it—I’m out the door!
How did you adapt your artistry to meet the unique needs of different clients, from red-carpet glam to everyday looks?
Adaptability is key. It’s impossible to carry every single product in your kit, but with experience, you learn how to mix colors and textures to achieve the desired look. Preparation and creativity always get me through, even when something is accidentally left behind.
Are there any recurring beauty challenges you noticed clients faced that inspired your product line?
Absolutely. Common issues like makeup not sitting well on the skin, lotions peeling under foundation, and a lack of hydrating products that provide a natural glow all inspired my product line. I wanted to create solutions that address these concerns without relying on heavy, pore-clogging primers.
How does your background in makeup artistry influence your brand's approach to skincare?
My products are designed to work seamlessly with makeup because that’s how I use them on set. They’re versatile—great for removing makeup, soothing skin, or even acting as a highlighter or brow gel. This approach stems directly from my experience creating flawless looks for clients.
You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the world—what’s the best beauty tip you’ve picked up from a celebrity?
Funny enough, I’m usually the one sharing beauty tips with celebrities! Makeup artists and facialists are their go-to experts, so I’m often teaching them how to achieve certain looks. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned, though, is adaptability—understanding what each client wants and knowing how to tailor my skills to meet their needs. It’s all about collaboration.
Do you have any behind-the-scenes stories or memorable moments from your time on set or at events?
One recurring moment is when a celebrity who hasn’t worked with me before comes in a bit skeptical. Winning them over by creating exactly the look they envisioned is always a triumph. I also love collaborating with clients who know what they want and aren’t afraid to do certain things themselves—it’s about making them feel comfortable and confident, not about my ego. Those moments often lead to long-lasting professional relationships, which I cherish.
